Before and After

Before: as found

After

So it's been a while... busy with the holidays and what. I thought I would post some before and after pics of the DL-1 Roadster. This was found just about a year ago and underwent a painstaking renovation... I say renovation because the goal was not to get it to complete "as new" restoration, but to turn the Raleigh into a fully functioning (and beautiful) transport bike. Mission accomplished methinks. Stay tuned for some news on my next project. A ladies loop frame DL-1 for the Mrs.

The Original Tweed Ride

Scenes from the original tweed ride... Luxury cycling indeed.

The "All Steel Bicycle" was a marvel of modern technology... as was the Aeroplane.

Pretty much unchanged until the 1980's

Sir Walter Rides Amongst the Tweed

It was a lovely 70 + degree November day in DC today... perfect for the first DC Tweed Ride. I'm told this will be a biannual event... Well, jolly good because the first event was smashing. The Vintage steel was a sight to behold... Pennyfarthings, Pashelys, Gazelles, Raleighs, and lots of Fixies.

One of my personal favorites was this vintage English track bike. It's a 1950's Carpenter with an inch-pitch chain and lovely chromed lugwork. Then there were the boneshakers... the original fixies.

The tweed-clad peleton worked its way down Capitol Hill... Stopped for a quick photo-op at the White House...

There were even a few Dandies and Quaintrelles on DC Smart Bikes.

Then it was off to Marvin for Eggs, Beer and Gin... I was also pleased to meet the DC's Cycle Jerk and the lovely Baroness Von Cycle Jerk. A good time was had by all.
